Huronview and Huronlea are sister homes in Huron County. These municipal homes provide health services to those who can no longer live independently in their own homes and require 24-hour nursing and personal care. As a member of the Resident Care Department, the Van Driver is responsible for the safe and timely transportation of residents to medical appointments and also participates in various other assignments related to achieving the department’s goals and objectives in providing quality service and teamwork.

Role and Responsibilities:
- A resident is aware of the Bill of Rights and strives to respect and promote it.
- Transports residents to medical appointments in the local community or surrounding area and, when necessary, organizes trips to allow sufficient time for appointments to reduce stress and anxiety.
- Is prepared to take emergency measures such as first aid or contacting 911 if the resident’s condition changes in his/her care.
- Demonstrates an understanding of the resident as a whole person, taking into account cultural, spiritual, psychosocial and restorative needs.
- Observe and report, verbally or in documentation, significant changes in a resident’s physical and emotional conditions to registered staff in a manner that demonstrates respect and privacy and confidentiality for each resident (documentation includes observations of behaviors, staff interventions, and the resident’s response to those interventions). )
- Assists the maintenance department with the van by arranging for routine maintenance of the vehicle as per policy and cleaning the van regularly (using MaintenanceCare.com).
- Shares responsibility for safe use and maintenance of home equipment and supplies and residents’ personal belongings eg cell phones, wheelchairs, walkers, etc.
- Ensures efficient utilization of supplies.
- Accepts responsibility for the quality of care and services provided.
- Recognizes safety hazards and the importance of providing a safe environment by conducting a safety check of the vehicle before each trip for lights, brakes, lifting device, first aid kit and cell phone.
- Maintains a good attendance record and accepts responsibility for working according to schedule.
- Responsible for personal development, including identifying work-related learning needs and participating in educational opportunities provided.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
- A Class G driver’s license is required and a photocopy of the same must be submitted annually two (2) months prior to his/her birthday to ensure the license is current.
- Proof of safe driving record.
- Knowledge of safe and defensive driving techniques
- Must be able to work flexible hours
- Excellent time management skills and ability to follow directions and stick to a schedule
- CPR and First Aid Certification.
- Experience working with seniors and/or long-term care residents in a health care facility or community setting, with a genuine interest and concern for the elderly.
- Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing
- Employment status proof of COVID-19 vaccination
Salary:
- $24.10-$27.19, according to the SEIU collective agreement
