Cleaner Is Needed In Toronto Seniors Housing Corporation

On May 5, 2021, Toronto City Council approved the creation of the Toronto Seniors Housing Corporation (“TSHC”) to provide safe, well-maintained housing and improved living conditions, services and experiences for seniors. TSHC interacts with and supports senior tenants in new ways, with the goal of ensuring that seniors age in dignity and comfort. On June 1, 2022, all 83 Toronto Community Housing Corporation (“TCHC”) seniors buildings will be managed by the new Toronto Seniors Housing Corporation. The new corporation will focus on meeting the needs of senior tenants through an integrated service model.

TCHC will continue to own the buildings and be responsible for the core capital. TSHC leases buildings from TCHC and is responsible for minor capital and maintenance. TSHC will enter into agreements with TCHC for appropriate shared services and focus on issues facing the TSHC tenant, including health and social support.

Reporting to the Community Housing Supervisor, the Cleaner is responsible for cleaning and maintenance duties in the assigned work area(s) in accordance with policies, procedures, applicable legislation and standards set forth by Toronto Seniors Housing. You will work closely as a team member to provide excellent customer service to our tenants.

Responsibilities

• Assists regional staff in cleaning the entire building and provides a safe environment for tenants, staff and the general public
• Cleans and maintains exterior grounds and all interior common areas of assigned work areas
• Cleans up empty units
• Responds to and provides information to inquiries from tenants, staff and the general public in accordance with Toronto Seniors Housing policies and courteously directs inquiries to appropriate staff
• Maintains a variety of cleaning, maintenance and communication equipment
• Works as a team in accordance with Toronto Community Housing policies, procedures, guidelines and applicable laws and responds to emergencies in their assigned work area
• Adheres to all safety guidelines in accordance with the Ontario Occupational Health & Safety Act. Uses safety equipment and protective clothing as required
• Attends and participates in meetings and training sessions
• May be required to work night and weekend shifts
• Performs related work as assigned

Qualifications

• Knowledge and understanding of Toronto seniors housing and the systemic challenges facing aging seniors
• Demonstrated ability to operate protective equipment
• Experience in cleaning or janitorial work
• Ability to operate manual and power tools and equipment would be an asset
• Adequate command of oral and written English language to carry out instructions
• Ability to provide respectful service to tenants, staff and visitors in a multicultural environment
• Ability to work in a safe and responsible manner
• Working knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act including WHMIS
• Ability to do heavy lifting and work outside as needed
• Experience in building maintenance & repairing property
