The French Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs introduced the Eiffel Scholarship Initiative in January 1999.

The project is intended for international students whose exceptional potential has been acknowledged by French higher education institutions who want to finance them for the remainder of their studies.

The main goal of the program is to give future decision-makers in the business sector and government administrations of developing nations an education in France.
