The French Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs introduced the Eiffel Scholarship Initiative in January 1999. 

The project is intended for international students whose exceptional potential has been acknowledged by French higher education institutions who want to finance them for the remainder of their studies.

The main goal of the program is to give future decision-makers in the business sector and government administrations of developing nations an education in France.

For both Master’s and PhD programs, the France Excellence Eiffel scholarships cover seven subject areas within two primary disciplinary sectors. 

These fields are under the category of science and technology and include:

Ecological Transition

Engineering Sciences

Mathematics and Digital

Biology and health

History

French language

Civilization

law and political science

economics and management.

Candidates who meet the requirements can enroll in master’s degree-granting courses, engineering programs, or joint doctoral programs offered in collaboration with foreign universities. 

The scholarship has several terms: for a Master’s degree, it can be provided for up to 12 months for M2, up to 24 months for M1, and up to 36 months for finishing an engineering degree; for a doctorate degree, it can be awarded for a period from September 1st of the award year for a period of 6 to 36 months. 

A monthly allowance of €1,181 is provided to Master’s level recipients in addition to services like domestic and international travel, insurance, house hunting, and cultural events. 

Recipients with doctorates receive a monthly remuneration of €1,700 along with comparable extra services. 

Nevertheless, neither level’s tuition is paid for by the France eiffel scholarship program.

The age requirement for candidates is under 25 (born after March 31st, 1998).

Candidates for Sciences Po: Students enrolled in our two-year Master’s degrees who are not French nationals (note that those with two nationalities, one of which is French, are not eligible).

Eligibility restrictions for the eiffel scholarship

  • Students who have already enrolled in both the Undergraduate College and a Master’s course at Sciences Po.
  • Students who, despite changing their field of study, had previously applied and been unsuccessful for an Eiffel scholarship.
  • Applicants for the one-year Master’s degrees.
  • Admission to a dual degree program in Sciences Po.
  • Applicants were accepted into the Journalism and International Affairs Joint Master’s programme.

The tuition costs are not covered by the eiffel scholarship. 

Therefore, recipients of the scholarship who are given a spot at Sciences Po must pay the annual tuition costs.

In 2024, the monthly grant amount for Master’s programmes will be €1,181, with extra advantages including insurance, home search aid, cultural activities, and assistance with foreign and domestic transportation.

For Master’s programmes ranging from 12 to 36 months, the stipend amount under the Eiffel Excellence Scholarship Scheme is €1,181 per month; for PhD programs lasting 12 months, it is €1,700 per month. 

In addition, monthly Living Stipends are provided to recipients, and a Fee Offset for tuition is available for specific programs. 

The Tuition Fee Waiver Duration is 12 months for PhD programs and 12 to 36 months for Master’s programs. 

Payments are provided on a monthly basis. 

Since scholarship advantages are granted for a limited time during the degree program, it is crucial to carefully analyze the offer to make sure that all information, including amount, length, and criteria, meets your needs.

Direct applications for the Eiffel Scholarship are not accepted from students. 

Applications need to be submitted via an institution of higher learning. 

You may only submit one application if you are enrolled in two different postsecondary educational institutions.

In the “Financial Information” part of their Sciences Po application form, first-time applicants must declare that they would like to be considered by Sciences Po for the Eiffel scholarship.

The submissions that Sciences Po wants to submit to Campus France will be chosen. 

Please be aware that submitting a proposal to Campus France does not ensure that it will be presented as part of the Eiffel Award.

If you are selected for presentation to the Eiffel committee after being admitted, you will be required to submit more paperwork. 

Early in December, an email will be sent to the shortlisted candidates.

Get in touch with a French institution’s foreign relations department via phone, email, or website to find out about application processes and deadlines. 

The next stage is for your chosen university to submit your online application for the France Excellence Eiffel scholarship through the Campus France website after it has approved and supported it.
